LIFECOR was founded by Dr. M. Stephen Heilman and a team of former Medrad/Intec employees who were responsible for developing and introducing the world's first implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The LIFECOR business was acquired by ZOLL Medical Corporation in 2006.

The current LifeVest system is the third generation wearable defibrillator. It is approximately one half the size and weight of the second-generation product, and is easily and comfortably worn by persons having SCA/SCD risk. The LifeVest wearable defibrillator is currently marketed in the United States and parts of Europe, and will eventually be sold worldwide.
